Nonlinear phenomena in optical fibers
Burian, Radek ; Horváth, Tomáš (referee) ; Münster, Petr (advisor)
The subject of this thesis is to describe nonlinear phenomena in the optic fiber. The theoretical part describes a principle of transmission in optical fibers. Optics modules, fibers and their parameters are described marginally. Except nonlinear phenomena, there is also described linear phenomena such as attenuation, dispersion, scattering. In terms of nonlinear phenomena there is described second order phenomena such as Second harmonic generation (SHG), Sum and difference harmonic generation (SFG and DFG) and third order phenomena, such as Kerr effect, Third harmonic generation (THG), Four-wave mixing (FWM) and Cross phase modulation (XPM). There are also described nonlinear scattering, such as Raman´s and Brillouin´s scattering. The Four-wave mixing is simulated in the first half of the practical part. Four-wave mixing occurs in DWMD systems, where can invoke cross-talks between channels. In the second half of the practical part is measured this nonlinear phenomenon. The aim of the measurement is to understand the behaviour of the FWM and find the way how to eliminate its power. The Four-wave mixing measurement is based on the simulation. Second measurement is designed for Brillouin scattering. The conclusion from simulated and laboratory part from both measurements are compared with theoretical knowledge.
Usage of fast-reacting SBS polymer in the production of asphalt mixtures
Dohnálek, Jakub ; Dašek, Ondřej (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The subject of this diploma thesis is a research of bituminous binder modification by fast react-ing polymer SBS. The theoretical part covers an introduction to bituminous binders, their pro-duction, chemical and physical-mechanical properties. The identification of bituminous binders and their use in bituminous mixtures is briefly described. To conclude, current modification methods are described in detail and important modifiers are introduced. In the practical part, three applied tests (softening point, elastic recovery and penetration) are described in detail. The bituminous binders tested (20/30, 30/45, 70/100, PMB 25/55-55 and PMB 45/80-50) and the fast-reacting polymer SBS are introduced. Samples with two weight percentages of SBS, 7,5% and 10%, are produced. Two mixing times, 60 seconds and 600 seconds were used to mix the bituminous binder and SBS. In conclusion, the results are evaluated and commented. Further research suggestions regarding this field are recommended.
Influence of virgin bitumen on the properties of polymer modified bitumens
Kamanová, Monika ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The diploma thesis describes the influence of the used input paving bitumen on the properties of the produced polymer modified bitumen. The theoretical part explains parameters of asphalt binders and improving their properties after using modifying additives. The second part is explaining methods and test results. The empirical tests (needle penetration, softening point, breaking point) and performance tests in dynamic shear rheometer and bending beam rheometer are used for comparison of binders properties. In the conclusion the laboratory aging of asphalt binders is described by RTFOT and RTFOT+PAV method.
